Massachusetts Healthcare Payment Transparency Challenge Logo

This is an open call for innovative ways to use Massachusetts provider price data to drive transparency of healthcare costs to educate consumers and inform policy makers.

Finalists will participate in a live Pitch Off event and prizes will be awarded for the best visualization of the data.

The Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) is an independent agency that exists to increase transparency in the Massachusetts health care system and ensure that policymakers and regulators have access to objective, reliable data.

CHIA has recently made available a public dataset that includes an unprecedented amount of healthcare procedure price information. The dataset is built off of healthcare claims, and reflects insurer payments to providers for 295 common healthcare services.

CHIA has partnered with the Massachusetts eHealth Institute—the state’s designated agency leading the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative and promoting health IT innovation, technology and competitiveness—to launch a data challenge to showcase potentially innovative uses of the data.

Our shared belief is that providing more information will lead to better decisions and better outcomes. Our objective with this competition is to leverage your expertise to gain new insights and support a more informed public dialogue about healthcare costs.

We invite submitters to share their best ideas of how to use this data to drive transparency of healthcare costs to educate consumers and inform policy makers.
