NEJM CareerCenter Conversations: Physician Technologists take on the Triple Aim

The US health care system is the most costly in the world, accounting for 17% of the gross domestic product with estimates that percentage will grow to nearly 20% by 2020. The Triple Aim is a framework that describes an approach to optimizing health system performance. It consists of the following: (1) Improving the patient experience of care, including quality and satisfaction; (2) Improving the health of populations; and (3) Reducing the per capita cost of health care.

Physicians are an integral part of this change, and are doing some innovative things to take the lead. In this discussion, we will profile young and older physician leaders taking on the Triple Aim. They'll tell us what inspired them to do what they do, what they're doing, and how we'll fix American healthcare by working together.
