MOC and its precursors recertification and continuous professional development have been failures as assessed by physicians participating in these exercises despite the best efforts of ABIM and ABMS over the last 40 years.
Are these organizations continuing to push this process only for revenue, or do they honestly believe they can ever get it right?
While ABMS recognizes some responsibility to the public, they do have a responsibility to physicians to make their procedure worthwhile and cost-effective for participants. They never speak about this concomitant responsibility.
How can someone interested in high-value care be supportive of the continuous low value and limited efficacy of MOC?
