What is the physician's responsibility when parents request genetic screening of their children for hereditary diseases for which there is no therapy? A good example might be when one parent carries the gene for Huntington's Disease. Since there is no theraputic value to the screening, and the onset of symptoms is typically after adulthood, I would recommend parents not to test children. What if they insist? Can I refuse and will I get in trouble?
