Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States and globally, as 1 in every 3 cancers around the world is diagnosed as skin cancer and 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer within their lifetime. More than 3.5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year in the US, with over 65,000 cases of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer responsible for 75% of skin cancer deaths. Of the 7 most common forms of cancer, skin cancer is the only one increasing in incidence.
The key to improving survival rates is early detection for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Our project’s goal is to save lives by increasing access to noninvasive skin diagnostics. We're trying to make this process smarter, more accurate, more flexible, and faster through developing an integrated hardware and software device.
