I would like to say hello to the panel of experts and introduce myself. I am a 2nd Year Medical Student at Oakland University-William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester Hills, Michigan. I consider myself a non-traditional student as I came to medical school after a successful 15-year career in the US Air Force as a pilot and staff officer. As a veteran, I worked with a great many people who were quite passionate about gun ownership and gun rights, and I had to educate myself on some of the issues surrounding gun ownership to be able to communicate with my peers.
I look forward to engaging with the experts on this topic during this discussion.
As my first question to the experts: You all come from different academic backgrounds; physician, public health, economics; how do you feel that your unique background and perspective shapes the work that you do in this field?
