I’d like to take a moment to discuss the present state of gun violence research more broadly. Most would agree that gun violence is a public health crisis and are aware that researchers are working hard to explore it. However, those of us who aren’t experts in the field may lack a basic understanding of exactly how much we know about gun violence prevention and just how much we have yet to learn. I invite our experts to help fill this knowledge gap.
What are some of the biggest questions in firearms research today? What data do we need to collect to answer those questions and who are the entities poised to collect it? Also, which kinds of critical data are currently challenging or impossible to collect?
