Thank you for offering your advice and serving as role models for us! Yesterday we learned the importance of honing in on a single area of interest, joining committees and professional organizations, increasing visibility by saying yes to speaking engagements, and finding the right sponsors.

As many of you pointed out, we still have a long way to go! Several hypotheses exist for why women remain unequally represented in medical leadership. These include poor retention (“leaky pipeline”), disparity in compensation, and competing responsibilities such as child care. What factors impact women’s satisfaction, success, and advancement in their medical careers? Do these factors vary geographically? By practice type (private vs. academic)? By specialty?
