The true motivation of a physician is to be able provide a healthy life to another human being. A physician used to have a role of friend, philosopher and guide to his patient.
However, with increasing regulations by the financial, insurance and legal industry the job of a physician has been becoming ever more difficult. With increasing role of computer screens in our daily practice and the pressure to spend least time with patients to maximize efficiency for throughput is increasingly posing threat to physician patient relationship.
It seems that rules from other sectors are driving what a physician can do and cannot do. What we need is establishment of a larger pool of physician leaders and administrators who understand the field of medicine and are able to formulate regulations with other industry which work in favor of better healthcare for patients and not become a hurdle. This will allow physician community to reengage in providing patient care with true joy.
