Welcome to the NEJM Forum on High Value Care. I'd like to thank all the authors and experts in advance for their time and participation in this forum. By way of introduction, I am currently a fellow at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and will be entering medical school in the fall. I will be posting one question every day along with my co-moderators. As a guide for our discussion, we will be using the article titled "Preoperative Medical Testing in Medicare Patients Undergoing Cataract Surgery" which was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. I'm looking forward to an engaging discussion!
To get us started, I'd like to ask a few framing questions. How is the healthcare system shifting towards promoting high value care and alternative payment methodologies? Why is it important for practitioners to think about delivering high value care in their workplace?
