Why not address the elephant in the room? In my experience, preoperative medical testing is a way to share fees with the referring physician. The physician referrs to the specialist, who then consults the referring physician for pre-operative clearance, who then referrs the next patient to the specialist. This is rampant in my community, and the referring physicians even admitto it when confronted. Is this problem being addressed at any level?
