It seems that part of the difference between the UK and US is the extent to which women in each country perceive the hospital to be a safe, or the safest place to give birth. What contributes to this difference and what are the biggest obstacles in convincing American women with low-risk pregnancies that delivering a baby at home is safe? Is this a result of the way this option is presented by national societies in each country, differences in access to care or rather representative of deeper cultural differences in risk tolerance?
