Over the course of this 10-day discussion, I will be posting a question each morning to spark our conversation. Our discussion will focus on two exciting new articles, titled “Early Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest”, and “Mobile-Phone Dispatch of Laypersons for CPR in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest”. These articles are a one-two punch showing CPR performed before EMS arrival was associated with more than doubling of 30-day survival rate after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) followed by showing that the use of a mobile-phone positioning system to dispatch laypersons trained in CPR is associated with significant increase in rates of bystander-initiated CPR. I am thrilled to see the innovative use of information technology as a tool to deliver healthcare to improve outcomes and look forward to hearing all that comes out of this discussion.
