The hospital associated with my medical school (Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI) recently opened an attached birthing center to create an experience more similar to a home birth, but with quick access to a hospital if any complications may occur (beaumont.edu/womens-health/obs...). Are centers similar to this opening in other parts of the country? Could hospital-attached centers bridge the gap between medicalization and the system in the U.K.? What are the pros and cons of these birth centers?
