I was going to save this question for later in the discussion, but with many trainees asking about what they need to do to prepare for their careers (e.g. choosing the right residency), it seems a great time to ask about opportunities. What is one area where you see many opportunities for physician-scientists to have an impact on science and healthcare? Is tackling big data for health in a tech startup the place to be? Or, is cutting-edge translational research the right track (perhaps in neuroscience given the large BRAIN initiative at the NIH)?
I would be very interested to learn where our guests and our audience think great opportunity lies (and particularly where great employment prospects lie!). Given the varied experiences and career paths of our featured guests, I imagine there are many possibilities.
