For many physician-scientists, one of our first exposures to the funding process comes from applying for individual fellowships. As the NIH recently expanded the F30 mechanism for physician-scientists to include all institutes, we as trainees have more opportunities to secure funding earlier in our careers than even before. When reviewing fellowship applications, what are the key elements you look for? What tips can you give individual fellowship applicants to improve their chances of garnering funding?
