Healthcare providers hold a variety of beliefs and values about LGBT people and LGBT issues, and we as advocates assert that anti-LGBT values in the healthcare system/workforce result in discrimination and disparities. Do you think that a provider can hold anti-LGBT values and still provide effective care to LGBT patients? Do you think that a provider with anti-LGBT values should refer their LGBT patients elsewhere? Do you think that it is appropriate for educators to try to change providers' personal values, or is it sufficient to raise awareness and encourage LGBT-supportive practices in spite of anti-LGBT values? Personal stories are welcome.
