Welcome. On behalf of the Association of Women Surgeons, it is my pleasure to get this forum started. Our annual conference is being held on October 2, 2015 in Chicago and in preparation for that we wanted to partner with NEJM and Medstro to begin a conversation on the modern woman surgeon and focus in on 3 areas over the 6 days: stereotypes, work/life balance, and leadership. To get us started, let's focus on stereotypes in surgery. Our poll question as well as response to #ILookLikeASurgeon around the world highlights that stereotypes in surgery are affecting many surgical careers. What does #ILookLikeASurgeon mean to you and how can it help us address stereotypes in surgery?
