Every patient is not only a member in shared decision making in an interdisciplinary team of professionals, but also a working hand in Health Promotion in the community. The benefits of including patient in the team are threefold -
1. It helps in bringing about a realistic sense of purpose and responsibility towards inter-sectoral coordination in a multidisciplinary team. When we have a patient who actively participates in the decision making - the sense of the professional team for working collaboratively is heightened.
2. The satisfaction of the complete team including professionals and the patient about service provision is improved.
3. The patient becomes more activated towards health and may be trained with simple techniques for health promotion in the community. Social care may utilize such an activated patients and make them use simple techniques such as photo-voice etc in community. Additionally, they may also help in improving health in their own families.
