I agree with Dr. Crimi that we should turn the discussion to anesthetics, where it seems that the general consensus is that propofol was not a good choice regarding translation of RIPC to human subjects, and many are indicating this as the reason the studies were not successful in creating a significant benefit. Let's restate some questions:
If we believe that anesthetics are responsible for the absence of benefit or RIP in ERICCA and RIPHeart, we should answer why?
Is there a neurogenic transmission of RIP that might be abolished?
What would be a better anesthetic to use?
