In a 2012 study, Stieg et al wrote that in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest resuscitation - "We found suboptimal compression depth in half of patients by 2005 guideline standards and almost all by 2010 standards as well as an inverse association between compression depth and rate. We found a strong association between survival outcomes and increased compression depth."

Cardiac Coach measures compression depth and rate using a smart watch and coaches the user to achieve optimum values on both in the moment. In the field, CC collects data on CPR characteristics and matches them with outcomes to optimize the coaching algorithm.
