The Allergy Amulet is a portable, rapid, point-of-consumption food allergen detection device. The device will test foods on the go, so that individuals with food allergies can feel safer about the foods they eat. The first Amulet will detect for peanuts; future Amulets will detect for other common food allergens and ingredients. Users of the Amulet will have the choice of wearing this device on their person, or carrying it in their pocket or purse. The device will use proprietary molecularly imprinted polymer technology that the company’s CTO has successfully applied to detect for a variety of molecules, including carbohydrates, vitamins, amino acids, and environmental toxins. The company has filed a PCT patent application, which is assigned to the company. After consulting experts in the FDA regulatory field, it is the company’s belief that the Amulet is not a medical device. The company was recently selected as a MassChallenge finalist and is currently based in Boston, MA.
