The advantages are obvious, the vital signs and other important parameters are in front of the provider . The present system in the majority of facilities is outdated. It's made even worse with the use of EMR for anesthesia, PACU, and ICU. The physician/provider needs to turn away from the monitors and rely on alarms to warn them of a problem while typing data. Having the vital signs visible no matter where you turn is a compelling reason to institute this innovation. It will also cut down on noise pollution since , we can make abnormal vital signs flash or change color. The provider can institute therapy faster and thus prevent complications.

Smart glasses can be part of an overall system that's incorporated into anesthesia machines , monitors, IV pumps, etc . These new devices can have the modules built in and just needs activation to sync with smart glasses. Since it's also a communication tool between providers, one can easily send vital signs, lab results, etc via smart glasses , to prevent errors and miscommunication. Integration with major EMR programs will be another advantage , no need to access a computer screen and turn away from patients. Important parameters can easily be accessed by voice or hand gestures. As more "smart" devices are connected via IOT ( Internet of Things ), smart glasses will become the link that pulls them all together.
