Welcome, everyone, and thank you to Dr. Snowden and colleagues for your thoughtful examination of planned out-of-hospital births in Oregon. I’m looking forward to this conversation!
The authors comment on some interventions used internationally, such as uniform policies for training and credentialing out-of-hospital birth attendants, and protocols for transferring care to the hospital, that may lead to safer out-of-hospital births for patients who desire it. Should we consider guidelines and standards like these in the US? And what are the barriers to implementing them?
