According to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the costly US healthcare system should strive for what they call the “Triple Aim”, that is:
1) improving the patient experience of healthcare (including quality and satisfaction),
2) improving the overall health of populations, and,
3) reducing the per-capita cost of health care.
According to IHI, to do this work effectively, it’s important to address a range of community determinants of health, to empower individuals and families, to substantially broaden the role and impact of primary care and other community based services, and to assure a seamless journey through the whole system of care throughout a person’s life. In recent years, a number of physicians with an entrepreneurial spirit have chosen to start companies that address aspects of the Triple Aim - often employing new technology in the process. This discussion features leading Physician Technologists who have done just that.
