I'd like to shift gears a little bit and talk about the impact of the residency application process on the fourth year of medical school. In the NEJM perspective, Drs. Aagaard and Abaza discuss the “senioritis” effect during fourth year, especially during the interview season. For program directors/advisors, how important is fourth year productivity in assessing or advising applicants? For students, would you be more inclined to schedule more clinical electives if the residency application process was less burdensome?
