There is growing pressure from contrarian and popular public opinion, especially coming from self proclaimed 'experts'. For example, surrounding issues like childhood immunizations, home births, travel concerns, and nutrition. It is hard for physicians to keep up with the ever increasing 'conspiracy theories' and at the same time maintain equipoise about important scientific issues. Physicians have to spend a lot of time explaining and defending regular, common place therapies because of misplaced propaganda against it in the media. Will strengthening the public health and health awareness/ education programs help in alleviating this burden on physicians? Can government or media do more in supporting evidence based practice of medicine? Also, can physicians themselves be more directly involved in media and provide educated guidance in shaping public health policy?
