The study found that in 84% of caregivers, depressive symptoms decreased over time. How can we make sense of this finding? Does it imply that caregivers naturally found coping mechanisms, or that the burden associated with caring for a sick patient inherently decreases over time? Some might find this counterintuitive, particularly since the caregivers were not enrolled in an intervention to help alleviate the stress of caregiving.
