In thinking about caring for a sick family member, spouse, or close friend, one would assume the relationship of the caregiver to the patient would have a substantial influence on mental health outcomes. For instance, a wife caring for a sick husband might be expected, in general, to be more significantly affected than a friend caring for a sick friend. Similarly, we might expect that the genders of the two parties would also impact outcomes. Did outcomes differ based on these two factors in any interesting or unexpected ways?
