The CDC's National Violent Death Reporting System, "which collects data on both legal intervention deaths and homicides of law-enforcement officers," is described nicely in a Perspective article just released by the NEJM. Although the system includes fewer than 20 states, it's a resource that should help research into firearm-related violence.
