Founded by Amy Li months after she conquered stage IV cancer, Dance4Healing is a telehealth live video platform leading telehealth into physical rehab space. Our mission is to alleviate mental and physical pain, improve quality of life, accelerate patient recovery, and reduce medical costs. Rooted in neuroscience and published medical studies, we uses artificial intelligence and behavior design to provide and recommend personalized music and dance, buddies and groups for patients; uses feedback from patient monitoring to record progress; and suggests follow-on therapies. We connect passionate dance teachers who struggle to make a decent living to patients, elders, and caregivers with various health challenges as well as healthy people. We are partnered with Stanford for clinical trial and Cancer Supportive Care Program. Dance4Healing has been praised by participating patients and physicians, won numerous awards, and invited to speak at SXSW, Health 2.0, HXR, HTF.
Research shows Creative Arts Therapy (music, dance, art) improves quality of life for cancer patients by 50%, reduces pain by 59%. Moderate exercise makes cancer treatment more effective. ⅓ Americans are >50 now, ⅕ will be >65 in 2030. Dancing reduces the risk of dementia by 76%, helps prevent falls, combat aging, heart disease, chronic pain, diabetes, and neurological disorders, which cost $1.8 trillion in the U.S.
Yet music and dance are underutilized in healthcare. The U.S. Government and health systems have an urgent need to reduce medical costs. The Obama administration’s overhaul of doctors pay ties fees closely to quality, instead of quantity, of care. Dance4Healing fills this gap in health systems, helps doctors and healthcare providers transition to a quality-care-based payment system.
Behavior change is the toughest challenge in healthcare. Patients, elders and caregivers suffer from physical fatigue and psychosocial difficulties. They are often homebound due to safety concerns and compromised immune systems, preventing access to gyms, triggering anxiety and depression. 60-90% of doctor visits are due to stress. Stress also fuels the spread of cancer by triggering the master gene ATF3. Previous research indicates that social isolation during treatment limits patients and elders’ adherence to existing creative arts intervention. Schedule flexibility, accessibility, and patient engagement are critical. There is an unmet need for effective, low-cost technology platform like Dance4Healing to enable patients and elders to dance with caregivers, other patients, friends and families remotely.
Dance4Healing brings community support and fun to patients and elders’ homes, reduces stress, and inspires positive lifestyle change. Watch this 2 minute video and be inspired by our brave patients: bit.ly/D4HRocks. Over 50% of Americans can benefit from dance, and Dance4Healing is the GameChanger to make this positive social impact happen.
