Forest Devices, Inc. has developed AlphaStroke, the first stroke screening device that can be used by medical personnel in any environment. Presently, 50% of stroke patients go to the wrong level of care, or a hospital without stroke care, adding an average delay of 110 minutes.
Durable, portable, and easy to use, AlphaStroke alerts users to possible strokes within minutes. Our device enables triaging of stroke and stroke negative patients to the correct level of care. This minimizes time-to-treatment, the most important factor in improving stroke patient outcomes.
AlphaStroke works by connecting specially designed electrodes to the scalp and swiftly alerting users to possible stroke. No other stroke detecting device is as fast, cost effective, or works in as many environments. It measures brain waves on both sides of the head, using algorithms capitalizing on the asymmetric presentation of stroke. In minutes, a provider on an ambulance or in emergency department (ED) can confirm or rule out suspicions of a stroke. In the US alone, improved triage would annually save thousands lives and preventing disability at discharge for nearly 100,000 patients, and reduce days of hospitalization by nearly 500,000.
In addition, in the emergency department, AlphaStroke can prevent costly administration of tPA to stroke mimic patients and help prevent unneeded imaging of mimic patients that are reimbursed via bundles, saving over $2 billion in the healthcare costs alone. Better stroke triage would improve patient outcomes and bring tremendous financial benefit to hospitals and payors, saving more than $25 billion in healthcare costs annually.
