Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a widespread debilitating condition characterized by restricted airflow in the lungs. It affects the quality of life of millions of people worldwide and is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Sustained oxygen use is routinely prescribed to provide relief to COPD patients.
Traditional oxygen therapy requires manual patient intervention to ensure prescribed dosage and usage are followed. Existing "smart" systems are able to meter oxygen supply based on the patient's breathing or monitor patient vital signs to determine user status. But they are lacking the connectivity to actively monitor the full patient treatment loop and the adaptability to allow automated adjustment.
MOSS is the first all-encompassing system able to track patient activity and relate it to blood oxygen and oxygen consumption. It is capable of not only breathing with the patient and conserving oxygen, but also adapting the oxygen dosage based on patient's activity level, blood oxygenation and learnings from previous trends. With these capabilities MOSS can autonomously detect abnormal behavior and provide alerts to user and care team before conditions worsen. MOSS also provides routine, concise patient usage and status reports to clinicians, rehabilitation personnel and family members. In this way, the entire care team is equipped with the knowledge to track patient condition, prevent exacerbations, build better rehabilitation habits, and improve quality of life.
MOSS Connected Vision aims to enable the possibilities of hands-off COPD management by leveraging wearable sensors to create a connected therapy that relieves the burdens of managing long term oxygen use.
