Saccadous (pronounced suh-KAY-dis) Using a Virtual Reality (VR) form factor, fitted with high speed cameras (+200HZ), Saccadous captures and analyzes eye-movements to gain neurological insights. We provide conclusive mobile solution and platform for diagnosing, tracking and advancing the treatment of neurological diseases and disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, PSP, and Concussions (TBI).
We accomplish this through the capture and analysis of eye-movements: both at the saccadic (conscious) and microsaccade (involuntary). Our software-driven solution simplifies and mobilizes this capability while leveraging a cloud-based platform for the analysis, reporting and eventual predictive analytics driven by Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Saccadous, was founded in January of 2014 and awarded initial funding through the ASU “Furnace” Technology Accelerator competition. We have licensed Dignity Health-owned IP that is based on 10+ years of research that was developed at Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) in Phoenix, AZ. In 2016 Saccadous acquired TBID (TBI Diagnostics) and licensed additional IP specific to Concussions and baseline testing. Our focus in 2017 has been gathering data and we are actively involved in multiple trials and research efforts.
Neurological Conditions are difficult to diagnose, track and treat. Tests and methods are subjective, expensive, and invasive. Research studies by Hunt et al. (2007) and Erdal (2012) assessed the likelihood of athletes “sandbagging” baseline testing by purposely giving poor effort, and indicate there is desire and trend for student-athletes to attempt to cheat baseline testing. The Saccadous test is the only test under development that is not a performance-based test – Saccadous is measuring involuntary eye movement properties that cannot be consciously controlled, therefore giving trainers, coaches, and athletes a true measure for return-to-play decisions.
