We have struggled to find ways to educate and involve our patients in their own health, especially as our waistlines expand. To encourage lifestyle change, our Family Medicine Program invited the Farm Market onto campus where our patients, and ourselves, can take advantage of the fresh fruits and vegetables that are offered by local producers. This is not only a conversation starter with our patients, but has been a good source of motivation, education, and encouragement. Many of our patients live in food deserts and this is an opportunity for them to see that there are viable options available whether they are using cash, credit, or EBT/SNAP. Physicians and staff purchase healthy foods side by side. The contagious enthusiasm and energy of Farm Market is a spark for much needed change in our community. We definitely look forward to its continued evolution and health benefits.
