Hospital providers across the country all diagnose and treat DVT differently. We recently began an innovative pilot program that provides the tools and resources for all medical providers in our institute to diagnose and treat DVT exactly the same way, 24/7. Our goals are to decrease unnecessary testing, decrease patient and hospital costs and improve patient satisfaction by implementing our new “DVT Diagnosis and Treatment Algorithm” which uses “evidence based”, “choose wisely” medicine, “DVT probability scoring systems” with D-dimers, new EMR detailed orders/order sets, our CDU, NOACs, specific afterhours vascular lab criteria etc. If adapted across the US, this could save our country over $1 Billion/year in health care costs. We are beginning 2 research projects to study outcomes of this new DVT process.
